All the love Becca had ever known was broken. Her father had left them on her very first day of school. By the end of that same school year, her mother had packed her up and sent her to live with her grandmother, Sue Adams. In all of her 17 years, Becca had only known the love of her grandmother and the one grandmother had called her savior-- Jesus. Grandmother died the year Becca graduated from high school. Barely 17, Becca was on her own. She packed up and left Grandma Sue's heirlooms and Jesus for the rest of the family to deal with. This time Becca would be the one leaving. She knew that the family had only seen her as a burden all these years and she was not sticking around to hear the disgust in their voices when the spoke at her.
Sixteen years, two divorces and several failed relationships latter, Becca returned to the small town she had called home so long ago. She had continued to search for the love that had escaped her grasp. Becca's life had revolved around finding that love for which she so longed. That desire that burned through her heart to the depths of her soul. The only time she had felt that love was during the years she had spent with her grandmother. If only she could go back to that time. Was Grandmother the only one who knew what love really was? Was she the only one who knew how to love? Having sought love in every face and voice she had encountered over those grueling years, Becca was sure it no longer existed. So many men had spoken those words to her, only walk away; just like her mother and father had. Returning home, where love had once lived, she would give her search one last try.
Standing high above lake Normandy, the warm breeze sent chills through her. Many times she had stood in this very spot; soaking in the breathtaking view. Today was a different story. Loss, confusion and hurt drove her to climb to this mountainous height. Her life seemed meaningless. She was resolved to believe that love did indeed not exist. Emptiness closed in on her as she stared beyond the beauty below. Life held no challenge or reason if love did not exist. Motionless, Becca closed her eyes as the tears began to flow. Thinking back over the years she had lived with Grandmother Sue, she caught a glimpse that love. It was a love ever so gentle yet bold and strong. Love that could right all wrongs while healing the pain. The memories began to swirl. Suddenly, Becca knew with out a doubt, her quest for love had ended right where it began. Becca remembered the love she had felt deep with in her soul when Grandmother had told her about the one she called her Savior. Grandmother had told Becca this man, Jesus, loved her and would love her regardless. Becca remembered wanting that love she spoke of and felt a drawing to this man but Becca ran. The love that she desired all these years had also scared her. She did not know what to do with that kind of love and she was sure Grandmother was mistaken. This Jesus couldn't love her ...her own mother and father couldn't love such as her...why would he? Becca had hidden that love, she had buried it under all the pain. The love that would have healed the hurts she carried for so long, she had quieted with anger and bitterness. Sitting atop the sun dipped hillside, Becca lifted her face to the SON. She called on the name of JESUS as her grandmother had told her so many years ago. As she spoke HIS NAME, the pain, confusion and emptiness retreated. She could feel His love wash over her. Becca's search had ended. This is where true love began.
