Packaged in my favorite color of blue, I place my thumb and forefinger on the easy open red-colored pull tab and lift as directed. Although I know what to expect, I still feel like it is the first time I saw you. As the cover peels back at its engineered slit, I see you, lined up in formation; uniformly produced.

Sugary white cream sandwiched between two crunchy black cookies. On each side of the black cookie your name, Oreo, is etched in the center encircled by other floral-like etchings. Along the cookie edge are ridges as seen on the American quarter. You are like a rare and valuable coin to me, thirty-six to be exact. Three rows of twelve lined up in formation.

I pour myself a tall glass of cold milk and place it on the TV tray next to my favorite spot on the living room couch. No radio or television program plays interruption; this is a special time between you and me.

I place you gently on the TV tray next to the milk. Tightly packaged, I ease out the first cookie from the center of the center row, careful not to break you. I admire you for a moment and then tell you to plug your nose and dunk half of you for ten seconds in the milk. Gently lifting you out of the cold liquid, I shake you lightly to extract any milk not yet absorbed by your cookie and place half of you in my mouth and enjoy the first bite, savoring the moment. I move my thumb and forefinger to one quarter of the half that remains and repeat the dunk cycle and enjoy crunching into the second half. Your crunchy cookie and sugary white cream center marry well with the milk and I think this is what Heaven must be like.

Although one serving consists of only three cookies, I abandon the health regulated suggestion and realize one row has already disappeared. Soon a second row is missing. Without hesitation I work my way through the third row. I lick my fingers and drink the remaining milk that was not absorbed by the cookies. I sit back on the couch, smile, and rub my belly in satisfaction.

What have I just done? I begin to mentally beat myself up for partaking in this act of gluttony and I vow to never do this again. Well, at least not until Oreo cookies go on sale again at the grocery store.
