Infatuation, Inordinate desire, Love at first sight, Fatal attraction, Emotional bounce …This are phrases synonymous to the four letter word ‘LUST’. As simple as it may sound, it’s quite interesting to know that no one (Christians alike) is immune to this spiritual pandemic…Really? And if there is any message that demands the distress call of heaven’s 911, then ‘LUST’ must be the top on our list.
Lust of the flesh or a craving for sexual gratification is by definition a strong, excessive desire (1st John 2:16). The scripture also describe as a bad appetite (1st Peter 2:11). ‘’Abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul’’. Let’s take a break as I share the story of a woman along this line
About a year ago I became involved in a relationship with a brother named Steven in the church I attend. I had been trusting that God would give me a life partner for a long time so I believed I was ready for the relationship. It began with phone calls and the most beautiful text messages you can imagine. It graduated into occasional visits that graduated further into daily visits. The danger of this process was that the relationship moved faster than it should have. Of course, the feelings involved were not able to follow a natural process of development. I began to long for that text message or phone call. My heart would beat rapidly and I had a feeling of euphoria most of the time.
This blinded me to my true feelings. As the relationship developed, I saw things that I was not happy about in my partner, but I began to compromise my principles. As the differences between us became more glaring, I realized that I was suppressing my true emotions, because I had become extremely depressed about my involvement. Each time Steven would come to see me, something within me would rise up in anger and I would react accordingly. (When infatuation fades, you start to hate with the same intensity you thought had loved.) I made several attempts to pray to get rid of the problem and sat down on numerous occasions to talk the problem over but nothing change.
One day, while settling one of our many battles, Steven asked me a question: Do you really love me? I took a very deep look at him and with no hesitation said an emphatic ‘NO’! what I imagine to be ‘Love’ at the beginning of the relationship was actually infatuation.
Maybe I need to remind you that ‘LUST’ is just a fleeting emotion which will soon or later fade into oblivion.

Are you a testimony of this spiritual pandemic, and you seems helpless. Of course there is way out. To every disease is a remedy. John 15:5….. for without me you can do nothing. Total dependence on God is not weakness, it is a place of surrender that acknowledges that we can do nothing without him. 2nd Corinthians 9:12 ‘’ my grace is sufficient for thee, for his strength is made perfect in weakness.

Personally, I think you might pull more people in if you started off with the story about meeting Steven. The way it's written right now feels more like a lecture to me. I believe by switching the order a bit, the reader will be able to relate more. I think everyone can understand that feeling of not wanting to be alone.
I can feel your passion as I read your story. You made some great points that will make the reader stop and think and that's always a good thing. If you haven't checked out the message boards yet, I'd urge you to. There is a whole section devoted to writing for the challenge. There's also a thread called Jan's Writing Basics which gives great advice for all levels of writers. I look forward to reading more of your work. You did a good job with this piece.
God bless~
