Topic: Write for the SUSPENSE and/or THRILLER Genre (10/23/14)
"Lord, save my son. I cannot reach him. He has been running for as long as I remember. The pain and the hurt have become his excuse to keep running away from You, instead of the reason to seek his healing from You. Let him find You before it is too late."

On the other side of town, Leroy Saunders is having just another ordinary night out—having fun, chasing the life of no responsibilities, but an unrest is brewing subconsciously. He figures that he should probably stop and take a decent job and become the man his mother always hoped he would be, but tomorrow is another day, maybe then.

The rain is pouring outside and the sound of the raindrops against his car bring back memories of love he once knew, but has stayed behind in another life. A life where his mom and dad were still a unit and he still had a brother. It all changed that one night when his father had one too many beers and his brother was pulled out of a car-wreck. The golden boy of the family, his best friend, his hero, an honorable life ending too soon. But that is all part of a life where he still believed in hope. Now, it was all about living in the moment and tomorrow can look after itself.

“Why the uneasiness, what is this about...”

The traffic light turns red and Leroy slows down, but his heartbeat seems to go the opposite way. If he still believed he would have thought it was God trying to speak to him, but he left God with his past where there was still hope.

Rain drops continues to pour down just like the unrest knocking against the door of his soul. The light turns green and Leroy, lost in his own thoughts, takes the turn onto Eternity Road, not knowing it is the last turn he will ever make...

"Hello Mrs. Saunders, I am Doctor Connors, I am sorry to meet you under these circumstances..."

"No, it can't be. He was not saved, he needed more time..."

"Your son's injuries were severe, we did everything we could, but we could not save him. I am truly sorry."

"So am I doctor, so am I."

.......................................

"God, is that You?"

"Yes, my son. I am the one you have been running from all your life, but your time has run out. I want to ask you one more time, do you want to be with Me forever?"

"Lord, I have abandoned You, I am not worth being saved."

"I never left you and I love you with an everlasting love. Do you accept Jesus' hand?"

"Yes, I do. But Lord, no one will know, my mom..."

"Oh my son, but I will. One day she will too."

Interesting story. Thanks for sharing your creative story and perspective on a sensitive topic. None are more saved than others, but some are still saved - barely.

This is a sad story that shows how life's tragedies can wound us so deeply that we are numbed to God's presence. I'm not sure what I think about second chances after we die, but I'm glad you ended this on a hopeful note.
