“Joy! Joy! Infinite joy!
How to have, to seize and hold?”
So I roved around world,
Across the times, to find the word,
To hear it straight from the horse’s mouth.
--
At the garden I found a snake:
“Eat! Eat! Eat this fruit!
‘That eyes may open, and be as gods.”
Inside the caves were worshipers:
“It’s yours! It’s yours! It’s yours, oh god!
Accept this babe, and give us power.”
On the plain were avid dwellers:
“Build! Build! Build this tower!
Make it reign, as high as the heavens.”
I passed by exclaiming travelers:
“Rejoice! Rejoice! Rejoice in this golden calf!
Behold our god – can be seen and touched.”
Along borders were hustling armies:
“Fight! Fight! Fight for our nation!
Defend our land, and conquer the earth.”

In the wilderness I witnessed
Tailgating mobster
Tempting a poor man.
Wrinkled fingers pointing on stones:
“Here! Here! Here’s some food!
Transform them into bread if you’re Son of God.”
He took him to a temple’s top:
“Jump! Jump! Jump off from here!
Don’t fear falling, for your angels are watching.”
As he showed the wonders of earth:
“Worship! Worship! Worship me!
And these glorious kingdoms will all be yours.”

Then I heard furious multitude:
“Kill! Kill! Kill that fraud!
Condemn his teachings and live by our laws.”
The soldiers were laughing:
Get off! Get off! Get off from that cross!
“Show your deity, and make us believe.”
--
From afar echoed an agonizing groan,
A professing king –wisest and richest in his time:
“Vain! Vain! All is vain!
Take all you can, but fretting won’t cease.
--
I cried hard to God,
As if I know Him closely:
“Right and left I sought but suffered!
What should I do, so I’ll be full?”
A heavenly voice, loud but calm,
Mightily landed, with fearsome power:
“Turn to me . . . for heaven is near.”

Joy comes not from things or what we do but from our hope because of what he did.
I would work on the last few stanzas so they also had three lines. There would be more unity in having three lines in each one.
