Who loves ya’, Baby?

Over the years I have had many friends. Some of them very close. Some of them somewhat close, and some of them more like an acquaintance. The very close ones I loved as well as the somewhat close ones. The acquaintances were usually fair weather friends.

Many of the very close friends are now gone. Either they have passed away or are married and living in different states, or we have just drifted apart over the years. Sometimes it is very lonely and sometimes I wonder what to do with myself. I used to sit around and feel sorry for myself, but have found interests to keep me busy.

Is a best friend always there for you? Does a best friend know when you need a shoulder to cry on? Does a best friend give up their weekend to help you move? Would a best friend drop whatever they are doing and rush to your aid if you called and screamed “HELP!” What do your best and closest friends do for you? And, more importantly, what do you do for them?

I have had husbands who I thought were my best friends only to have them turn on me and batter me to a pulp. Is that a best friend? I have brothers and sisters who never call or write and let me know what is going on in their little section of life. Is that any way to treat a friend? Just what does constitute being a best friend?

Over the years I have held precious moments in my thoughts about the friends I have had. I remember the laughter. I remember the tears. I remember the secrets only a best friend would trust you with. I remember the good times. I remember the bad times. Times so fleeting they are gone in a moment only to be left as treasured memories. Does your best friend share those moments in thought?

There is one best friend that can only be called my “bestie”. He is loving and would drop anything when I call and say, “HELP!”. He is there to listen and hears every word I utter no matter if it’s a shout or a whisper. He cares and won’t degrade me when I mess up. He encourages and lets me know it is okay to stumble. When I do stumble he is there to pick me up and carry me to solid ground again. He is patient. He is kind. He never loses control. He is gentle. He is always filled with joy. He is faithful. It is always peaceful in his presence. He is gentle.

I have known this friend for forty-two years. It hasn’t been until now that I have truly gotten to know him. For a long time I ignored him and didn’t think I had any need of him. Only he knew how much I really did need him and pleaded with me to come home. It was a hard decision and I wasn’t sure I could do it. But, with the help of another very close friend, I did, and life has become truly worth the living.

Yes there are struggles and days that nothing seems to go right. There are trials of every kind and tribulations to numerous to mention. But, my “bestie” gets me through them when I ask for help. He is my strength. He is my comfort. He is my joy. He is my encouragement. He is my love.

You too can have a best friend like this. It is easy. My best friend is Jesus and He can work miracles in your life. All you have to do is ask for forgiveness and sincerely mean what you say. He promised eternal life to everyone who asks Him into their heart. He is the only way you will receive eternal life, since it was Him who died on a cross to cover all our sins, no matter how big or small. (John 3:16) He is our example on how to be a true Christian and He wants to help you, too.

He is the perfect friend. His faithfulness is astounding. His love is so great it cannot be fathomed. His gentleness and kindness will surround your heart and hold you dear. He will give you peace in a hectic world. Won’t you ask Him to be YOUR friend, too? You will be amazed at what He can do!!!

This is a nice testimony. You make some great points about what a best friend is. Of course no one can love us like Jesus does.

I'm guessing that there will be a lot of stories about Jesus being a bestie this week. It's important to present it with something that will stand out and is different than the other stories. Sometimes you can try a different POV or voice if you feel God is calling you to write that story. I noticed you repeated quite a few words in different paragraphs. Try restructuring the sentences or using a synonym.

I definitely could feel the passion in your voice as you described your relationship with God. There is nothing else like the way he loves us and that comes through loud and clear in your piece. Nice job.

There is no friend so faithful as Jesus is. He is our perfect model of how to be a friend to others. Thank you for this well covered review of friendship. You did a good job of testifying of Jesus friendship.

It might help the reader some, if you were to cite specific examples of what a friend did that was not friend-like and then paint us a word picture so we can envision how it affected you and made you feel.

I liked your thoughts about loving Jesus. Many people can have a knowledge about Jesus and tell facts about him but it is only when people have a love for him that he will make a difference in their lives.

It is when we love him and recognize him as Lord of our lives that we will begin to keep his commands. The first thing we will do is to be baptized for the forgiveness of our sin. When this is done God gives us his Holy Spirit to live within us. This is why we can call God our heavenly Father since we have his Spirit within us.

I also liked how you discussed the many aspects of friends and friendship. As our friend, Jesus would never ask us to do anything that he wouldn't do himself.
