It has been a long day. The march through the fields allowing the flock to graze has indeed being tiring. Every other minute, each one of them turned to examine the position of the sun in the sky. But alas, the day remained young! "How is it that we are this tired?", asked one of them. This is something they do everyday - leading their father's flock to allow them feed on the green fields near Shechem. It was already a tradition for them but, today seemed different.

Everything about today was d.i.f.f.e.r.e.n.t. The animals were being exceptionally choose-y. Their feet ached like never before. Each wished the others would be gracious enough to allow him go back home. They have had to walk more distance in a bid to get the animals to a place where they are happy with the grass and herbs and so, they found themselves in Dothan.

Hungry and thirsty, they found themselves some shade and sat down to rest while their flock dined. They gisted one with another about their day thus far and about life in general. What challenges each was going through and how they were being dealt with. As the brothers talked and shared among themselves, they realized they had a common insomniac factor - Joseph.

Joseph, who is their father's eleventh of twelve sons. Joseph, their younger brother, has managed to keep them awake every night. When the rest of the people slept, they stayed awake thinking over their brother's dreams. His dreams of becoming greater than them. As they talked about it now, they began to examine Joseph's life to see if there was anything already outstanding in it. Oh yes, there is! Their father has undeniably displayed Joseph as his best. He loved him so much. "And that colorful coat he made him!", snapped one.

Though the brothers did not realize it, Joseph has become the theme of their discussions. From his dreams to the effects they had on them, to the unparalled affection their father had for him, to plots of how to get back at him when they returned home. Each listened as words were spoken by the others filled to overflow with hate. They despised him a lot! They wished he'd just disappear...along with his dreams. The hatred these brothers had for their younger brother had already eaten deep into their hearts and they'd forgot the Words of their father's God;

"There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to Him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers" - Proverbs 6:16-19 ESV.

They had forgotten all their father taught them concerning brotherly love. The more they spoke and cussed and plotted, the less hungry they felt. Right now, there's nothing that would bring them satisfaction as much as Joseph getting his dreamy life out of their way...and lives.

And they vowed to do so. They don't know how now but, they swore to seek and use any opportunity that presents itself to get rid of Joseph. Just then, they sighted Joseph coming from afar and they thought, how that circumstance has favored them. Now, the dreamer will dream no more!
