It was midnight and Karina had been up since the sun began to rise. It was a beautiful sunrise. There had been shades of orange, baby pinks, and reds ranging from scarlet to crimson before the sun in all its glory popped up over the horizon. She could only hope today would start as perfectly as yesterday had.
Today was her wedding day and everything HAD to be perfect. Not only was her fiancé a neat freak, so was her mother. Both of them thought they had to be in control of everything. No wonder Mom liked her fiancé so well. So much so, that her mom had no qualms about turning her only daughter over to Kent.
Everything had been planned down to the last piece of rice to be thrown after the ceremony. Only now could Karina lay her head down upon her pillow and try to slip off to dreamland. She quickly prayed and snuggled under the covers.
It seemed a bit cold for the last day of April, and as Karina waited for daylight and the sunrise, it didn’t happen. Great, the sky was overcast and dark gray. There would be no sunshine at her wedding, and it felt like she would now have to find an evening jacket to keep her warm to and from the ceremony and reception. It was going to be cold riding in the horse drawn carriage between the two.
Oh well, up and at ‘em. As her feet hit the floor, Karina slid on the slippers she left at the edge of the bed. Kathunk! She fell face first on her hardwood bedroom floor. She could feel liquid rapidly approaching her mouth and realized she had given herself a bloody nose. As she tried to get up, her left wrist and knee failed her. The blow also jarred them both and they were soar and swelling.
Surely the day couldn’t get any worse…but it did. Seems the bakery was involved in an accident since it was now snowing and the streets were hazardous. No cake. The driver of the horse drawn carriage had the flu and all the other drivers were either already engaged or out of town. No carriage. The Reverend had gone to the church to make sure the sidewalks were clear, and had taken a nasty fall on the ice and broken his hip…no one to perform the ceremony. What had happened to her perfect day and all the plans she had so meticulously made?
As she entered the church, she wondered if any of it was worth the trouble. Why hadn’t she just eloped? As she turned the corner, she stared down the long hallway leading to the room that had been set aside for her to prepare to walk down the aisle. From behind her came a soft, tender voice.
She turned to find her old college friend. He had been her best friend all the way through college and in the years since. Upon seeing him there in the flesh, she broke down and cried in huge breath taking sobs. The day had not been what she planned, and she knew Erik would give her a shoulder to cry away all the disappointment. He had always been there for her.
Once the tears became light trickles down her cheeks, she knew what she had to do. It was going to be a perfect day. She called her fiancé and discussed the day. She told him about her awe inspiring news…nothing fazed Kent.
She took her place at the back of the church and smiled ear to ear as she walked toward the man who was about to become her husband. He beamed as she approached, and she knew everything was going to be alright. God had given her the answer to her omnishamble day once she had been still and listened to Him.
Erik had been promoted from “man of honor” to groom. He was the one she loved…and HE was the one who loved her. He had told her so as he tenderly held her while she cried. He was the one who had called to get a cake delivered. He was the one who had ordered the sleigh to navigate the snowy streets. He was the one who had called his minister to perform the ceremony. He was the one who was going to make marriage wonderful…he believed what God said in His word about being a husband.
