Topic: googled (04/10/14)
Every morning the day starts with the same Prayer… Lord Please give me strength to make it through today, give me wisdom and compassion for others and let your image shine through me today as I walk in this difficult world.

Every morning the response I wait to hear – never comes. Instead it is quite, but inside me the warmth grows and a smile comes on my face. I don’t hear God, instead I feel him and know it is time to go to work. From that point forward I have no clue what to expect, where life will take me, but I sit assured it will work out. Why? Simple,

I googled it!

We all know what is says on the internet is true. We know who is cheating on who, who is invading who, what the new technology is, marital advice, teen guidance, and don’t forget social media. After my daily review of events I ask the question, “What smart glowing reference am I going to post on my Facebook status today so I can reflect Christ?”

So what do I do…? Nope I don’t grab my bible and do the old “let the pages fall open to what God wants me to read – instead I grab my cell phone, iPad, or laptop and Google here we come.
Today big topic was war is breaking out, or a famous actor died and everyone is sorrowful, or some political message is being spread and has everyone in turmoil. I can pick my topic, open Google and search “Bible Verse for adultery” or “Forgiveness” or any subject that I think of – or God guides me to. I then have my Google topic of the day, enter it into the search, and scroll through verse after verse until that one hits me as my genius words of wisdom for the day. Next I cut and paste these words into my Facebook status bar, thus showing everyone how brilliant I am today. To know just the right verse on the given day at the right time.

I have to wonder with Google now being my inspiration, why I ever read my bible. I now read more passages online than I do from my old hard copy of the bible. Wait I don’t just read a verse and say “Ah Ha! That’s it. Instead I research the verse… I can’t read just the verse, or the context is lost. Plus we all know someone in Facebook land will counter with a snide remark as to how I put the wrong verse up. Instead I research those words to find out the context.

What I have found out is that I now read several chapters of my bible daily which is more than I would sit down and read at night. I now also frequently know where to look in my bible when I need those words of wisdom for a friend and am suggesting where they read on a topic in their bible. Plus the best part is I still get the feeling God is speaking to me. How did I start on “Bible Verses for children” and end up on the verse I selected and posted about “Forgiving the spouse”? Well that answer usually comes later in the day when one or more of my 400 Facebook friends all of a sudden leave that response “Thank you; you don’t know how much I needed that”.

Truly Lord, I will accept your thank you for you since the truth is you led me to the verse to post for you!

Why – Because I googled it, just for you.

I'm thrilled when anyone reads the Bible, no matter how they do it...the fact that you're reading more online is wonderful!

Thank you for your well written personal reflections.

Keep on "googling" those scriptures.

Ya know, I don't remember the last time I opened up my actual Bible either. I use my phone or tablet no. Whatever gets the job done, right?

I enjoyed reading this; a fun perspective on what technology has done for how ee read the Word.

Good use of Google.

Yes, God speaks to us through this word and his Spirit he gives us.

If you re-read your posting word for word, can you find one or two words that seem out of place?

You may have just given many people another use for Google.

Thanks for sharing the good side of Google, we sometimes forget that good can come from using the internet.

There are a few typos that I know probably slip by you. One is in this sentence: "We all know what is says on the internet is true." I think you either wanted to write "What is said" or "What it says." Also, the closing quotation was left off this sentence: "“let the pages fall open to what God wants me to read – instead I grab my cell phone, iPad, or laptop and Google here we come."

Overall though, you have presented a positive article that was written to topic. God even uses the internet to speak to His people. Keep writing.
