Soft fluffy snow
With animal tracks in the early morning
A stillness beyond description
Surrounded by crisp clean air
And deafening silence
Winter brings
Puffs of breath
And frozen fingers
As we walk to school and home again
There are snow angels and
snowmen guarding the yards.
Winter brings
Opportunity to shovel in the cold
And make a bit more money
To buy gifts for Mom and Dad
As a surprise under the tree
On Christmas morning.
Winter brings
Sleds from the garage
Removing the rust
Soaping the blades
Walking in bitter cold
Icing the hill
Winter brings
Smooth and swift rides
Down the hill
Causing rosy cheeks and red noses
And covering each child with powder
And then we take a breath.
Winter brings
Rubber boots to keep feet warm and dry
Mittens to protect our hands
Mom makes cocoa
For frozen explorers
Upon their return
Winter brings the promise of spring
For new growth lies buried
And dormant under snow
Waiting for the first rays of
Spring sun to call them out
And bless the newness of the seasons
