Previous Challenge Entry (Level 1 – Beginner)
Topic: Winter (11/14/05)
The flames bask the room in an ethereal glow. An occasional spark darts out onto the hearth, hissing as it lands. The crackling of the fire harmonizes well with the soft music that wafts through the room. Ancient Christmas hymns proclaim the coming of the Christ child. A stately fir tree, adorned with trinkets and hundreds of sparkling lights, shines from the corner. The woodsy scent of the fir mingles with the aroma of freshly baked cookies, creating a sensory delight. Enchanted by the serene atmosphere, we are lulled into silence. We are awake, yet we dream. We are stacked upon the sofa like the cars of a train. I recline on my husband and our baby sleeps in my arms. Gently, we breathe together, our chests rising and falling in unison. I feel my baby’s heartbeat, pounding against my own. My husband’s fingers entwine with mine. I brush my baby’s downy hair with my lips. We rest. We are still and we know that He is God. Only God could create a moment as beautiful as this. Silently we pray; we exalt Him. Indeed, it is cold outside, but it is so very warm in here – warm with the love of a Father, the fellowship of a family, and the heat of a fire. Oh, the joy in the stillness of a winter’s night!

A beautiful setting, but needs to be broken up into shorter paragraphs to make an easier read for the reader...then they can really enjoy to the fullest...the meaning of winter.

What a beautiful scene. I might change the wording to I watch them sleeping as you don't usually nestle or become aware of your baby's heartbeat while you yourself are sleeping.
With that being said, I truly enjoyed your description, you painted the picture. Job well done.
