There is a classic Christmas movie that is a favorite of so many. “It's A Wonderful Life” is a movie in which James Stewart played the role of George Bailey set in the small town of Bedford. George is a warm hearted man who sacrificed much to help others. Eventually he began to feel defeated with all of his endeavors. Circumstances looked bleak and hopeless. George felt that life would be better for all if he were not there. He goes to the bridge to jump and end his life. His guardian angel appears and gives him a glimpse of what life in Bedford would have been like if he had never been born. He was surprised that his simple existence in a small town had truly affected so many people for good.
I sometimes wonder where my life would be without Christ. Larnelle Harris wrote a song entitled, “Were It Not For Grace”, that gives insight as to where I might be without Him. The chorus of the song says:
“Were it not for grace I can tell you where I'd be, wandering down some pointless road to nowhere with my salvation up to me. I know how that would go, the battles I would face. Forever running but losing the race...”
Without Christ would I have been an alcoholic? There were some drinking issues in my family when I was a young child. Proverbs 23: 29-30 says this about alcohol “Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? Those who linger long at the wine.....”
Would I have become a prostitute? What if I didn't understand that Jesus truly loves me even if no one else does? Would I have looked for love elsewhere? John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Maybe I would have wanted to take my own life like George Bailey. A life without Christ would hold no hope for me. Ephesians 2:12-13 says “that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and with out God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”
Perhaps I would have spent time in a prison cell without my freedom in Christ. True freedom is only found in Jesus Christ. John 8:36 tells us, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
Or maybe I would have become homeless without Christ to provide for my needs. Phillipians 4:19 says “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Thankfully I will never know the answer to those questions because on November 2, 1965, my life was changed forever. That is the day that Jesus Christ became the Lord and Savior of my life. There have been many bumps along my journey and unfortunately I have failed more often than I care to remember.
The apostle Paul also struggled with these issues. In Romans 7:18-19 he says, “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) dwelleth no good thing : for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I wold I do not; but the evil which I would not that I do.”
Where would I be without Christ?
Maybe I would just be forever running but losing the race as the song says, “were it not for grace....”

My only critique is to be careful using so many quotes. It can quickly go from being your story to copying someone else's.
Maybe you could have referenced some of the text, but wrote it in your own words.
Don't get me wrong. I believe the Word of God should not be messed with. I have just learned through much research, to be careful with quotes.
God bless!
