Like a goldfish bowl, people scrutinize Jesus with persistence
“Yes, He hangs out with hungry hooligans and charlatans!”
Yet multitudes flock to Him for mighty miracles and magnificent sermons.
Pilate declares his innocence but the religious demand His crucifixion.
His Resurrection has robustly resolved all doubts and disillusion
Presenting Himself to despairing disciples, seen by several others
“I’m going back to the Father, but I’ll come again!” He utters
Like a goldfish bowl, Babylonians peer at Daniel like a pseudo sage
Daniel and his friends decline the king’s food with candid courage
They refuse to bow down to the king’s image
Jealous people say he is a non-conformist
Daniel prays so boldly that he becomes noticed
Nebuchadnezzar went to the lions’ den to enquire
Daniel is indeed the man desired for his empire
Like a goldfish bowl, my toddler daughter will define my place
When I hide in bed to pray, she’ll pull my hands and lift up my face
In the washroom, she’ll hound me later in the day
She’ll ask, “Daddy, are you there? Answer me!”
Sliding the door to check if I’m still there
Just as I open the house door to take a breather
Inevitably, she’ll ask, “Daddy, where will you wander?”
Like a goldfish bowl, people observe Jesus, Daniel and me
Some do it out of a sense of innate insecurity
While others do it out of a sense of joyless jealousy
But my daughter does it out of her childlike curiosity
Life in the goldfish bowl and life in Heaven-- a dichotomy
Like an open book we strive to live a Christ-centered life
More importantly, our names are found in the Book of Life

Our children certainly watch us and see everything we do, even the things we hope they didn't notice at times. That was a walk down memory lane for me, as my two are all grown up. Good job on this one. Keep up the good work.
