This letter contains the results of the Holiness Test you were required to take before being allowed entrance into Heaven:
Section 1 Requirement: Never loved anything more than God –FAIL
When you got married, God took a backseat in your heart. You no longer lived solely to glorify Him, but instead began to live for your family.
Section 2 Requirement: Never allowed anyone or anything other than God on the throne of your heart –FAIL
When you were 17 years old, more than anything else, you wanted a new mountain bike. It completely occupied your heart and mind. When you finally bought it, it became your idol. Your very reason for waking up in the morning was so that you could ride it. I'm sure you can see how this is automatically a FAIL.
Section 3 Requirement: Always spoke God's name with the honor due Him –FAIL
Just last week when you were at the front of the church, reading the chosen Scripture passage aloud, you spoke God's name multiple times, each without the slightest amount of sincere, heartfelt reverence. All you could think about was how you sounded to the congregation, without even a thought for how you sounded to God.
Section 4 Requirement: Kept the Sabbath day exactly as God commanded –FAIL
Although you may have attended church regularly your whole life, you never once kept the Sabbath to the point of perfection. Of course, you understand that you are a mortal, which means you are expected to fulfill the requirements the Lord ordained, however, you have failed to do so.
Section 5 Requirement: Always honored your father and your mother –FAIL
You undoubtedly failed in this area both during your childhood and adulthood. From the instance of the empty cookie jar to your complaints against your mother-in-law, your disrespect for your parents was most disturbing.
Section 6 Requirement: Never murdered, in word or deed –FAIL
Sure, you never took someone's physical life, but when you took part in bullying Friedrich at school because of his accent, you murdered him inside.
As far as sections 7, 8, 9, and 10 are concerned, you also completely failed these with your lust, gossip, time wasting, and covetousness. As probably already guessed, your final score is zero. You. Fail. Miserably.
However, you may have noticed the small print on your test booklet, which says, “Due to Jesus Christ's death and resurrection, all requirements on this test are invalid, with one requirement listed in their place. That single requirement is this: that if you confess with your mouth 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved, and your grade changed from “FAIL” to “PASS.”
Therefore, we urge you to consider this requirement as the single most important decision of your life. You will soon receive one more test, which we hope you pass, but be forewarned, this is your last chance. Once submitted, your test cannot be retaken.
Most sincerely,
The Gatekeeper
