Seth observed that when people were busy with their own interests, they cared little about the needs of others. He stifled a yawn as he glanced at his custom, gold-plated Rolex® watch. Seth knew he needed some shut eye if he was to be on the top of his game for his scheduled meeting tomorrow morning with Evan Godfrey at 9:00 a.m. sharp.
Seth revved up the engine on his sleek, red Ferrari® and sped away to his place of business. He first stopped to pick up the latest article of “Who's Who®” in the world of successful new entrepreneurs. The “Fortunate Magazine” raved, “Seth Tanis up-and-coming business tycoon and real estate mogul has a sharp and brilliant mind. He has reached the pinnacle of success in recent years and we are placing him at number two on our list.”
Seth disgustedly threw down the magazine and sputtered, “Number two”. There is only one position that counts and that is “Numeral Uno”.
Seth realized he wasn’t getting any younger, so he had to move swiftly to accomplish his goals. He journeyed around the globe, looking for the right fit of people for his new venture. It was such a shame that Seth couldn’t clone himself because it was such a constraint to be limited to traveling just one place at a time. He did have a vast array of minions he had hired worldwide that he had aligned to do his bidding.
After all he believed, “everyone could be bought at a price”. Well, almost everyone, there was one “cog in the ointment” that he needed to rid himself of but he hadn’t found his “Achilles heel” yet. Something had to be done to eliminate his competition and soon.
Seth flashed his winning smile, “Hey Evan, do you have a minute?”
I wanted to interject my thoughts on the upcoming, “Uz Land Development” deal. I would like to lead the initiative to revitalize that sector of the city into a thriving upscale metropolis for future generations to live. This has been said to be the deal of the century.
“You know Seth; I placed Job Upright as the man in charge of this project.” After our extensive background check, we felt he was the most qualified to lead the team because his loyalty, faithfulness and integrity was unequaled in today’s market. Job is a devout family man who stands up for his convictions at any and all costs.
“I just want a chance to prove myself” burbled Seth. After all, who wouldn’t be successful if he or she landed all the cushy assignments?
“Job gets every assignment handed to him on a silver platter. What if I could provide evidence that Job is not the person you think he is? What if he takes a fall from grace? Would that change your mind as to who should lead the winning team, Evan?”
“You know Seth that we do not tolerate any violence in the work place but other than that I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t be allowed to substantiate your claim”.
“Of course, I did not mean to infer I would cause any physical harm to Job” I like to provide a safe working environment for my fellow co-workers that create a synergy and cohesiveness of ideas.
Seth mulled over the situation and chuckled to himself at his ingenuity in creating a shrewd plot that would destroy Job; while, elevating himself as a supreme being once and for all. Seth knew that Job was a righteous man who believed in God and prayed for his children on a daily basis.
Two Years Later in “Fortunate Magazine”
Seth Tanis seemed to have disappeared without a trace leaving a path of destruction and confusion. It appears he vanished in “thin air” after being investigated for money laundering and extortion. It appears that Seth had Job ousted from the Company for wearing a religious symbol on his lapel and other differing opinions such as domestic partnership and abortion that Job spoke about on a prime-time television show.
Seth started a new development company and the public support was overwhelming. He has more than tripled his net worth. Seth stated studying God’s word keeps his mind as “sharp as a two-edged sword”.
