I was there in the crowds as you were beaten and they drove the nails in your hands and feet, I cried as never before. I watched as they crucified my Lord. I could not believe that people could be so cruel to my Lord who had done no wrong, who had only shared love, healed the sick and feed thousands. Sorrow filled my heart and soul. But joy came when I heard the word that you had risen. That you were alive! Though I never saw you I knew these words were true. You had said you would arise and I believed. The disciples have told me that you now sit at the right hand of the Father. You did this all for me. I am just a poor woman who has sinned but You loved me anyway. Praise be to God! Thank you, Jesus.
Recently, I was going through some hard times. Nothing specific, just an overload of everyday problems. I felt anguish trying to care for my elderly parents, frustration in finding enough food to feed the children and criticism from friends and family for my faith in you Jesus. It was one of those days, when all at once I smelled the sweet fragrance of the alabaster flask which I poured over your head that day. The fragrance reminded me of that wonderful memory of that time and place basking in your presence. It was such an awesome and peaceful experience that words cannot clearly express. I knew at that moment you were with me and you had never left me. All the anguish and frustration of the day left immediately. The problems were still there, but I was able to cope because I knew you were at my side.
I love you, Jesus, with all my heart and soul. I try everyday to abide in you and keep your commandments. Some days I fail but I know you forgive me. You will probably never read this letter but I will put it in the alabaster flask for a reminder to myself, in case I should forget, you are always there. YOU LIVE!!!!!
Signed,
The woman with the alabaster flask.
And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table. But when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? For this fragrant oil might have been sold for much and given to the poor.”
But when Jesus was aware of it, He said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me. For you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always. For in pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she did it for My burial. Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.” Matthew 26:6-13 (NKJV)
