He made us in His image, I wanted to know just what His image is, because we are told to be imitators of God. The image of God, I was taught growing up , I have to admit, I didn’t like. How could someone tell you they would save you, then throw you overboard if you said or did one thing wrong? I ran from the God of those churches, because I got tired of trying to do all the right things and every time I messed up in their eyes, being told, “Straighten up or you are going to Hell.”
Fine, I told myself, if I am going to hell, I might as well enjoy myself, at least for now. I started drinking and running with crowds that I knew were bad. I ran and ran, but still could not find any peace. Then in shear desperation, I cried out in pain, “God, who are you? What are you? Where are you? What makes you so great?” I went to sleep that night in complete exhaustion and my pillow soaked with tears.
I would like to say, when I woke up the next morning ,I had all my answers, but I can’t. What I did wake up with was a new found strength and determination . I was determined to find out the truth about God. I asked, a friend, for a bible and was given a wonderful study bible. I was now on a quest; a quest to find out the truth.
I read and read, I looked up scriptures and followed the leadings to other scriptures. I took note after note and when I couldn’t read anymore I would just sit and think about all the things I had read.
Then one day I found these words written in one of John’s writings, God is Love, my eyes stopped moving, my mind went tilt, tilt, tilt. God is Love. God is Love. I just couldn’t quit saying those words. Then my mind went crazy, I said if, God is Love, then Love Created us in the image of Love. Love, the Greatest Power that ever was, the Greatest Power that is right now and the Greatest Power that ever will be. Love never fails. No wonder Jesus told them,, “Your traditions have made null and void the commandments of God.”
Things have started falling into place since I found this verse. For an example; the verse that says, seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you. Wow, what a difference knowing the truth. I now seek the kingdom of Love and Love’s way of doing things and it has made such a wonderful difference.
I am not perfect yet, but My Loving Father, through His Loving Word, gave me a saying, which has helped me along my journey: I am the Master’s piece, in progress, any complaints, see the Master. Oh yes, please and thanks.
As a child, of the Most High, I am learning. how to be more like my father. I have found a joy in my heart, peace in my mind and strength in my inner man. I now know who it is I follow and whom I serve. I know who it is that I call my Lord, my Boss and my Savior. I now know who I want to be like when I grow up.
