Topic: Feel (emotions) (08/26/10)
I never knew Tom personally because he was a senior when I was a freshman. He was the quarterback for our football team. He led the Jaguars to the state semi-finals. He would later put his leadership skills as a quarterback for Jefferson High School to a test; and the world would know what actions he and a few others took to save lives.

After high school he went to St Johns University, and Carlson School Of Management both in Minnesota. Later in life, he would marry his wife Deena and have three daughters. He moved from Minnesota to California where he became Vice President of Thoratec Corporation.

On a sunny Tuesday, in Newark, NJ, Tom boarded a plane to California. Shortly after departure some Islamic terrorists hijacked the flight. Using an airphone Tom was able to call his wife four times during the flight. The last time he talked to his wife he said, “We're all going to die, but three of us are going to do something." That is when Tom, Todd Beamer and others led an uprising, and took over the plane from the terrorists, and saved the US Capitol. Flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

I wonder what Tom’s wife in California felt? I wonder what emotions his Dad in Minnesota felt? I would think Tom would have been scared when he talked to Deena. It is hard for me to know how it would feel. The closest I got to personally experiencing the tragedy of 911 was my TV set. When I heard about what Tom did, I felt proud that someone from my school saved so many lives.

This was an emotional day for our country. If I was his parents I would have been sad and shocked over my son’s death. At the same time, I would also be honored about what my son did. I don’t know if his family were Christians, it says in the book of John about laying down your lives for others. They could have felt proud because Tom laid down their lives for others. It was thought that flight 93 was going to crash into the US Capitol Building. Because of what Tom and the other did on flight 93, they saved many lives.

Tom Burnett was an American Hero.

You did a fantastic job on this tribute into an American Hero. People around the world will never forget the impact of that day. I was stunned and shocked as I watched the images over and over. You gave me a glimpse into the life of your classmate.The feelings of the MC, family and even the reader were apparent in this tribute to all who were harmed on that fateful day.

I am so glad to see someone write about this horrendously tragic event in American History. Your story made it so much more personal for me as I lived it through your eyes, as a friend. Like many others, the T.V. was my closest tie to this ordeal. What an honor to have personally known any of those heroes. You gave me a lot of good thought provoking emotions into what friends and families alike must have felt.
