The Writer’s Challenge.

So many ideas spring to my mind in considering this title. Ultimately “The Writer” is surely the One in whom we all confess to be our God and Father.

For me, writing was born out of troubled circumstances. Having been raised in a broken home in which communication was not common practice, years of not expressing myself finally found release in writing.

The blessing in it all was that my writing was above all, just plain honest. There was little in the way of structure. I was not concerned with punctuation, paragraph spacing, a storyline, the number of words. I poured my heart out onto a blank white page. It made sense to me, it held my feelings, it was genuine, and it was quite simply the plain truth.

I have found that in writing, the challenge is getting to the truth. To get beyond the outside and find what lies within. We all live with our hearts behind walls of safety to some extent. And truth involves vulnerability, an immense strength to be weak…a paradox quite fittingly.

Truth is not an opinion. Truth is an entirely independent and unchanging way of being and living. It’s the law of true life, not an idea or ideal but rather the way of God. Truth is how it should be because its how it really is. Truth is how it really is.

Truth is where we meet with God and God meets with us.

But now I am faced with contemplating the challenges that God was faced with in writing to His children – Selah.

I return to the cross…I always find myself at the cross, a time in His-story that changed everything. It changed everything for me. And as a father, what rings out loudest in my heart is wondering how God felt watching His Son completing the work he so willingly accepted.

I imagine the most challenging part of His written work must have been penning in this story of His Son.

What a story our God has written for us all!

Very true. I am so thankful for journals; the raw and unedited writing from which we can later draw inspiration. We must then dig to present the truth in a way that leaves no deception and yet is acceptable to the audience we write for.
