Topic: Bon Voyage (09/05/05)
My friends and I, being adamant quilters, decided to fulfill our lifetime dreams–going on a cruise with our favorite hobby. We bought tickets on a quilting cruise. This was going to be the ultimate for us all. We put our deposit down one year in advance. Every penny saved went for the cruise. Every conversation between my friends and I always turned to the anticipation and excitement awaiting at the beginning of the new year. What would we take, what would we wear? How much money should we take? How many pairs of shoes? Should we take shorts (because we were leaving in January), cocktail dresses, pantsuits? Do we buy that cocktail dress or pantsuit in the size we wear now or the size it is on sale in hopes we will lose weight before the big day? Will we lose weight before we go so we look good in our new cocktail dresses and bathing suits? Or do we just wait and lose the weight after we get home from eating so much on the ship? Is my passport in order? Do I really look like that? It is worse than my driver’s license picture. I am sure they use lenses that make you look heavier and uglier than normal lenses do. I need to buy film for my camera or do I just take disposable cameras? As the day grew closer, what will my husband do for a week without me? Does he have enough food to survive? Does he remember how to use the ATM? How can one decision bring so many questions? This is suppose to be fun? As a woman, I find in some circumstances, the planning and the anticipation is more fun than the actual event or am I just a strange cookie?!!! (That’s okay, my mother loves me.!!)

As time drew near, different problems arose. I became ill. In a difficult decision, I was lead by the Lord to stay behind. My family needed me, I needed them. So as my friends packed their bags and tearfully told me “goodbye,” I wished my friends and my cruise “Bon Voyage,” with no regrets. You see God let me share with my friends the excitement and the planning of the cruise. When it came time, God showed me His grace when deciding not to go on the cruise and gave me peace throughout all the decisions. As I drew closer to the Lord during that time, trusted in Him, He healed me. I might have said “Bon Voyage” to my cruise but I said “Hello, to a new and better life.” My Lord is a Gentleman, a Comforter, Healer and most of all–faithful.

A nice way to state that we really can't make our own choices in this life, when it belongs to the Lord. :) You have made me pleased, young one.

The first paragraph is humorous, but maybe just a few too many questions. I love the second paragraph, and especially the last few sentences. God was gracious, and so were you!

work on adding paragraphs. After reading all the beginner level stories, the biggest problem I see is lack of paragraphs. Look for natural breaks, and then place paragraphs to help lead the reader through the story.

Being a quilter, too, I could understand your disappointment. It's nice to know God helps us overcome our disappointments in life. Good entry - keep up the good writing.
