swirled the dust around me.
Far in the distance was the sound
of a whistle.
Soon, I would be leaving this place.
My mind wondered back to a past memory.
of a child swimming in water as cool and as clean as the sky above.
I can hear the laughter of all my friends as we played in the water
and the mud.
I have to shut my eyes now,
because the dust is making them dry.
Then I hear music. The sound was something that awoke my heart.
I remembered that song, I remember my mother humming and singing this song.
I looked up to where my mother had stood on this dusty old platform.
And I could see her lips moving.
She smiled at me and began to sing;
*“I love to tell the story,
‘Twill be my theme in glory;
To tell the old, old story of
Jesus and His love.”
Then, the sound of the whistle brought me back to reality.
I could see the train clearly now, as I stood on this dusty old platform.
I turned to look at the town once more.
Nothing really left, except the Post Office,
which is also the train station.
And the old church at the end
of the street.
Not too many folks left in this old town, and the old church is where they would all meet.
I couldn’t hear the music anymore
I thought maybe they had stopped,
but then I heard another song,
that kept my heart aloft;
*“So I’ cherish the old rugged cross,
till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it one day for a crown.”
I realized this day, that I was
going to miss this place.
But I realized to, no matter
how you say Bon Voyage.
No matter the memories that
may be left behind.
Just remember always the friend
you’ll have with you;
*“What a friend we have in Jesus all
our sins and grief to bear.
What a privilege to carry everything
to God in prayer.”
While I stood on the dusty old platform of the train,
I watched as the town grew
smaller and smaller.
But the further I got from the town,
the more the landscape changed.
Gone was the dust that swirled because of the hot dry wind.
I saw fields of green grass,
and acres of wildflowers.
I saw creeks filled with water, and the animals that were drinking from them.
As I was standing on that
old rickety platform and the
train was just jugging along.
My foot began to tap,
and my heart breaks out in song;
*“I’ll go where you want me to go,
dear Lord, O’er mountain, or plain,
or sea;
I’ll say what you want me to say,
dear Lord, I’ll be what you want me
to be.”
So, whenever you hear the whistle
of a train.
May your foot begin to tap, and
your heart break out in song.
