Topic: The Writer’s Skill/Craft (04/22/10)
Sandy sat down to write another Christian song God had placed on her heart. This time she was certain it was going to be special and reveal God's own work through her. She sat with her hands on her digital piano keyboard. Nothing… "How could this happen?" She wondered this as she felt the tug on her soul to create a song using God's words. But not one musical note would emerge. Not one word lyric crossed her mind. She began wondering why God had placed this urge in her soul to write this song if nothing was going to come out.

Hours went by and Sandy became increasingly frustrated. After all, she is a crafty and successful Christian song writer who has many awards under her belt for her Godly skillful work. However, this time it was different. Something was wrong. What had she forgotten? It was as if her song writing skills had surged out the window and left her totally blank inside and out. Yet, she kept feeling God's tug to pursue this venture. She must figure out what is wrong and follow what God is telling her, but what could it be?

Suddenly, Sandy realized she needed to pray about this and not rely totally on her skillful craft. She felt the Holy Spirit's guidance in writing the song, but forgot to pray about it and ask for God to hone her skills! She bowed her head in shame and asked for forgiveness. She asked God to give her the words He had chosen for her to write. Then they came flowing like a raging river. She raised her head in praise and put her hands to the keyboard and started playing. The tune came out like a flowing spring breeze. The words followed and the song within minutes was completed. God had done it again. Sandy, through prayer and obedience, was skillfully crafty in creating the song God spoke to her soul to write.

This is the only entry I've read on songwriting--well done!

Be careful of using cliches or often-used phrases; I noted several. And I encourage you to use all the alloted words, perhaps adding some dialog or additional details to help use get to know your character better.
