The day is birthed by the ocean’s heartbeat, the rhythmic sound of the waves thrust against the breakers. The rising sun is like a helium balloon balanced above the ocean’s floor, it’s glare angled hard on waves made of metal. I watch while the sandpipers vie for sea urchins that are swept ashore, as if God’s breath blew them into the sand. They tuck their heads down and scurry to the shoreline, dashing away from the sweeping waves that retrieve the earlier deposits; only to have them repeat this ritual over and over. As evening approaches the sandpipers disappear, and I know that tomorrow they will return to the shoreline to collect God’s provision for them.
I sit on the cooling sand as the evening tide gently licks my feet. As far as I can see, east to west, is the vastness of the ocean. It is during these spectacular moments that I am reminded of God’s mercy and grace. How He has removed all of our sins; so far removed as the width of this ocean before me.
The ocean’s depth is not to be compared to the depth of God’s love toward us, His creation. If we ever question His fidelity, we have only to be reminded of Jesus’ sacrifice at Calvary. How God, our Heavenly Father, redeemed us all, bringing us back into fellowship by way of the cross of Christ. Whenever you view the ocean, climb a mountain or even hear a baby cry, you are reminded that there is a Creator, and He calls you His child.
I watch the eye of Heaven, an orange orb, slip beneath the horizon, falling into the ocean’s mouth. Another day gone out to sea. I am content in knowing that the mistakes of this day are laved away. By my confession of sins, God himself has removed and they are washed away; just as the sand is washed from my feet. As vast as this ocean is, so deep is God’s love to you. His Word testifies of His promise to us, “…lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” Matt.28: 20 KJV
