"I received a call from the hospital, they found your brother along side the road, he was hit by a car and was life flighted to Scranton Trauma Center, can you come with me?" her mom asked shakily.
"Huh? What happened?" Anna wanted to be sure she wasn't in a stupor. Did just hear that her brother was life flighted? She pulled the device away from her ear and looked at it as if it was a foreign object. She had to double check and be sure if she was really awake and talking on the phone.
The gripping reality was slowly sinking in, and it wasn't a dream.
The hospital was a 45 minute drive away from where they lived. Of course she'd go!
How could this be happening? He was home on leave from the Army. Here in America! And to think he is lying critically injured because of a hit and run driver?
Soon she threw herself together and she and her parents piled into the car, and quietly drove to the hospital.
They waited for hours while her brother was having brain surgery. Finally when the Dr came out of the O.R. the prognosis wasn’t good. He gave them impossible odds of his survival.
As christians they weren't quiters! She and her parents spent three days at the hospital with next to nothing in sleep, Praying and waiting for a miracle in spite of the doctor who said their was no hope.
Unfortunately the doctor's prediction was accurate. Her brother Michael died from head trauma, and lingered in a brain dead coma for exactly three days.
Their hopes were dashed. And there was still a killer on the loose that they had to forgive. They needed several portions of grace.
Before they left the hospital they made the necessary final arrangements that were his dieing wish. Michael was a giver. Not only was he a soldier for our country even in death he gave his organs.
Two days later a perfect stranger knocked on their door during a very difficult time in her family's life.
This stranger wanted a story.
He had the look of compassion in his eyes, and tactfully wanted to help find the hit and run driver who killed her brother.
The family looked a mess from crying, they were distraught, and dazed.
But somehow they knew a to invite this good Samaritan into their dining room who quietly stood watching them solemnly compile a collage for his pending funeral. They knew he felt compassion for them. They knew it wasn't just a story from a reporter simply there to do a job. No it was more than that.
He even allowed the scripture verse at the request of the family to be placed in the article. Romans 14:7
For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. He wove it into the news article when he learned of Michael’s military service, as well as multiple organ donations.
The man who killed her brother came forward the next day and confessed to the crime admitting to the police his overwhelming guilt after reading the news paper article.
That article would have touched the coldest heart. The chances of that happening were God’s odds.
It would take much time for the family to heal and grieving process would require much of Gods grace. But justice for Michael was lending them some closure.
They knew that their Heavenly Father would continue to answer their prayers in the powerful ways that only He could, and their unwavering faith assured them there would come a day when they would all reunite in Heaven.

There were some spelling errors, and a continuity error (her mother called her, but in a later paragraph, it appears that they were in the same house). These are minor, though.
I'm always moved by families who show supernatural forgiveness and compassion.
