“Red and Yellow, Black and White, we are precious in His sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world”! As this timeless children’s classic runs through my head, I cannot help but wish that more adults took these words to heart. When it comes to the love of humankind, one often must wonder what is being passed on to the next generation, messages of love, messages of respect, or merely messages of tolerance?

There are indeed many beautiful colors in this world. How fortunate we are to have the opportunity to experience them. Too often messages of tolerance are modeled to youth, as if those of different colors have undesirable traits that must be put up with rather than embraced and admired. How much we miss out on with that mindset, and how unfortunate that is for our youth.

As our world becomes increasingly multi-cultural, and the beautiful colors continue to unite, it is more important than ever to remember the words to that simple, yet beautiful song. The fact remains that we all belong to Jesus, loved, cherished, and blessed with the same gift of grace.

In the ancient world, people knew so little about the world that it was widely believed to be flat. Now, thanks to technology, it seems as though the entire world is at our fingertips. How times have changed! Youth today are growing up in entirely different circumstances, and must be prepared to forge forward as Christian soldiers. Adjustments must be made to the way we live, the way we teach, the way we parent, and the way we disciple.

Matthew 28:19 tells us to, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. We certainly do not have to look very far to find opportunities. So no matter if one is Red, Yellow, Black, White, or any other color. We truly are all precious in his site, and thanks to globalization, this seems like the perfect time to build a rainbow. What a beautiful, colorful world!
