“Is his hair red?” another asked at the doctor’s office.
“I always wanted a red-head!” Another pointed out, as she stroked the back of Christopher’s head.
“Maybe it will change color.” my mother-in-law said, as Pops nodded in an oddly solemn yet optimistic expression, as if trying to console one another.
If it’s one thing I’ve noticed about red hair, it’s that people notice when your child has some. My two-month old son has become quite the spectacle perched over my shoulder. People marvel at him everywhere we go, as a passerby might stop to take notice of a street show. And there’s no escaping their comments – good and bad. I’ve learned to expect them with a ready smile of confirmation, “Yes, red indeed!”
Red, the color of love and the color of blood, is both intense and spellbinding. As I reflect on this, I am drawn to another, the Lord Jesus, who loved so fiercely as to shed his very own red blood for us. This precious truth demands a response. May I carry it as openly as a red-haired baby boy in my arms, so others might take notice. “Yes, red indeed!” is the blood of our salvation.
