My head pushes on and on,
and out and through.
A passage clears and light I see.....
As I emerge I see a sea...
A sea of brown with waves of green,
A one of many other greens.
Shoots shooting out to see the light.
In light I live!
The dark was needed to protect.
While seed to seedling I grew.
But now no longer dormant.
As root went down I felt me grow.
So part of me remains in earth.
Forever grounded, yet ever bound for sky and sun.
I am a plant.
Birthed out of seed and set for race ahead.
I’m to become a tree.
I see my mother tree!
“Ahoy there, mother tree!”.
Familiar yet so grand.
Her head held high.
Strong roots and arms spread wide.
Now infant me, tomorrow Oak or Elm?
