“But Lord, you don’t understand. These people aren’t worth the trouble.”
“Jonah. I’ve asked you once to go to Nineveh. Will you go?”
“Nah. I think I’ll take an early vacation and head out to Tarshish. I hear the room rates are cheap this time of year. See ya!”
“Jonah, I’m warning you. Don’t do this…”

“Those guys didn’t have to take me seriously. Besides, I can’t swim. Wow, it sure is dark in here and the smell… Lord, maybe I made a little mistake, a misjudgment. Lord…?”
“Lord, please…!”
“All right, Jonah. This is your second chance. Will you go?”
“It’s better than being fish food. He needs to use Listerine.”

“See, Lord. I did as you said. All they did is repent, from the King on down.”
“Are you angry because I showed them grace?
“I was hoping to see some fireworks. You really did a number on those Egyptians. By the way, thanks for the gourd. It really makes things cooler.”
“Hey, Lord! Now, what happened to the gourd?”
“You’re angry because I inconvenienced you and you won’t rejoice because I spared the Ninevites. You have a real problem, Jonah.”

We all have Jonah’s problem. Disobedience and selfishness does nothing for our walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. He was gracious to Jonah and used him mightily. How did he repay the Lord? How would you?
