Today is this year’s first trip to the beach, and I am beyond excited! Oh, I know, you might think I’m a bit too old to be a beach bunny. And, well, you’re right about that. But, still, being at the beach has a way of bringing out the young girl in me.
Loaded in my little sports car is my summer fun pack. I have a brightly striped beach chair with matching sun umbrella and a small cooler with my lunch and a few cold sodas. In my little backpack, I have the required suntan lotion (the one with the logo of a naughty dog pulling at the bathing suit of a little girl), a towel, and, of course, my transistor radio. Really, what more could a girl want?
I’m lucky. My beach has a little truck that picks you and your belongings up at the parking lot and drives you to your selected location. As the truck nears my spot, I eagerly scan the sand looking for them. Honestly, it’s not hard to find my compatriots. A bunch of us cluster together every year. We selected this spot years ago. It is close enough to the lifeguard stand that we can find it again after going swimming!
I see them. Squeals of joy emanate from the group as each returning member arrives. We exchange pictures of new grandchildren, and sometimes of newly-wed grandchildren. We reminisce about the old days, but mostly we enjoy each other’s company.
We munch on slightly crunchy bologna sandwiches, a requirement for a true beach lunch. We bask in the heat of the glorious sun. We try on each other’s wide-brimmed straw hats with the flashy bows. John, always the clown, tries on every hat. And we, always his faithful audience, respond with fits of laughter. We play our nostalgic music loudly, and secretly chuckle at how it annoys the teens around us. But mostly, we laugh. Oh, how I love summer time!

Would have loved you to have given even more detail. You only gave me a glimpse when a long look might have been even more delightful.
I'd love to see these folks myself. Very nice!
The competition is always intense in Level 1, so you deserve a pat on the back. :-)
