Topic: Summer (the season) (07/09/09)
A Spiritual Summer

I find it interesting to compare my spiritual life to the seasons of the year. Summer is a tough season for me. I find my spiritual life dry and tiring. I long for the freshness of Spring and Fall or even the sharpness of Winter. But Summer? My prayer life feels like a weed that is struggling to grow up through the cracks in the driveway. Maybe a successful attempt, but still ugly. Why do I feel it necessary to experience this spiritual drought?

Maybe because that is the way God planned it. It is the way I am wired. My relationship with Christ cannot always be energetic and alive. At times I need to feel lonely and broken to realize how nice the other seasons of my life really are. The dog days of Summer allow me to appreciate the good things in my life. So I should thank God for the hottest of days and anticipate the cool drink of water that is the promise of Jesus Christ.

Interesting but different perspective on summer. I like how you put your thoughts together and phrased them. (My prayer life feels like a weed that is struggling to grow up through the cracks in the driveway.)
