Topic: Empty and Full (06/04/09)
Abandoned and feeling alone, no place where you feel at home, empty. We are hard wired for joy. Although depression can bring fruits of creativity have you noticed it is the creativity that draws you up and out of your depression? Now I am not saying that depression doesn’t have a season because it seems that it is a part of the human condition, making depression neither bad nor good.
Yet did not God tell us that the joy of the Lord is our strength? So how this is accomplished dear fellow pilgrim? Well, I am seeing that it all has to do with where one’s eyes are.
I look at Martha, wow she was incredible and she fed people who came to see Jesus. She saw all the stuff that needed (in her opinion) to be done. There were tables to set dishes to wash food to be prepared. I imagine that she kept fresh flowers in a prominent place to freshen and bring beauty to the room. She was hospitable. Over time she began to run a little on empty. As her energy began to wane her eyes were on her sister Mary. Mary, sitting, just sitting! Are you kidding, didn’t she hear Martha mumble under her breath that she could use a little help? Mary was unmoved sitting there at Jesus feet with that dumb smile of devotion.
Martha might have thought, maybe I’d like to sit for a while! What is wrong with Mary is she really that naive to think that all the work is just going to get done. While she sits there, like a school girl who has a crush on her teacher? Doesn’t she notice that people are talking didn’t she hear Aunt Salome ask if she’d been sitting all day, why doesn’t Mary get the hint. Exasperated, tired, agitated, and running on empty Martha couldn’t take it anymore. She interrupted the master, she didn’t want to but she had to, her heart was just to empty to take any more! Master don’t you care that my sister is making me do all the work tell her to help me, she pleaded.
Jesus turned with love and said Martha, Mary has chosen the best thing.
What? Are you kidding me, such an answer goes against all human reasoning. Martha was good a good woman full of good works in her never ending efforts running to and fro, a saint! Everyone looked to Martha, Martha would fix, it. Everyone knew how responsible and amazing Martha was. I bet a hush fell over the room. Martha poured out herself, in self effort until she was empty.
The Lord told us that our righteousness is as filthy rags, used sanitary napkins.
Our blood is tainted by sin from our father Adam. Jesus blood is pure, without sin. That is why accepting the blood of Jesus fills you up with eternal life. Mary chose the best. Only Jesus can set us free from our “goodness” the law, all the do’s and don’ts, could, should have and ought to’s.
Self effort only makes you look good to others (praise of men) but it never can and never will make you good. Only Jesus is good. He is” Good”. When you accept the Blood of Jesus you become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Then as you keep your eyes on Him, He fills you with the fruit of The Spirit, love, joy, peace, kindness, and so on.

Keep writing! The good fruit of our Saviour's wisdom, righteousness and mercy will bear much yield in season.

A good effort. Loved the message in this - one that we all need to be reminded of from time to time.

Breaking your writing up into smaller paragraphs would make it much more readable.

Try to use commas to break up lists in sentences, for example: There were tables to set, dishes to wash, food to be prepared.

Using inverted commas to indicate speech also helps the reader to make more sense of the passage, for example in your line: "Master, don't you care that my sister is making me do all the work? Tell her to help me" she pleaded.
