Topic: Bitter and Sweet (05/28/09)
Psalm 19:7-10 The Message

The revelation of God is whole and pulls our lives together. The signposts of God are clear and point out the right road. The life-maps of God are right, showing the way to joy. The directions of God are plain and easy on the eyes. God’s reputation is twenty-four-carat gold, with a lifetime guarantee. The decisions of God are accurate to the nth degree.

God’s word is better than a diamond, better than a diamond set between emeralds. You’ll like it better than strawberries in spring, better than red, ripe strawberries.


In an average day, we have a myriad of decisions we have to make and problems that we must consider. Just the idea of figuring out what we should do is enough to tire us out. Deciding whether we should pursue a new job, begin a new relationship or buy a home are just a few of the major decisions that we may make during our lifetimes. However, we have many more daily decisions that occupy our mental faculties. Sometimes we have to gain understanding of how to resolve a situation at work, find the best route to work, or even plan what we will eat for dinner. Ironically, I have found that sometimes the little issues of life can be just as disturbing as the big issues.

Fortunately, as believers, we don’t have to make decisions without guidance. Christians are provided with a roadmap that can direct their way down the correct path. This roadmap is the Word of God. It is through His Word that God ordinarily provides us with revelation. The answers to life’s problems are contained in the bible.

God’s Word nurtures, comforts, and restores our mental health. When the problems of life begin to beat us down, God’s Word will provide us with healing. It is through the Word of God that we can find order in our lives. The Message bible states in Psalm 19 that the revelation of God pulls our lives together and provides the signposts of God.

It is counterproductive for us to dwell on our problems and reflect upon them for long periods of time. We are far better served to focus on the kingdom of God and His Word. Matthew 6:33 tells us that if we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, God will provide for all of our needs. Through focusing on the kingdom of God, not only will we minimize the negative effects of thinking about our problems but we will have confidence that God will take care of our problems and provide for all of our needs.

Unlike the problems of the world, the Word of God is sweet to the soul. If we keep our minds focused on God’s Word and strive for the things of God, we will be helped to live a life that is sweeter, more peaceful and even more prosperous.

You certainly have expounded well on the attributes of the Word of God. This article would be a good devotional piece, just shorten it a bit and clear out the excess.

(A tip: always capitalize the word, "Bible.")
