Topic: Bitter and Sweet (05/28/09)
Up late one night I decided to take a walk through my yard. Well since it has been raining for weeks here in Western North Carolina walking can be a challenge even during the day. Coming to a flat place I took my eyes off my feet and just looked around. There it was, thousands of lighting bugs. They were all over the place it made the mountain behind out house look like an enormous Christmas tree with thousands of small lights. What a beautiful sight, it really makes me think of the Greatness of our God, what a creator.

Being a man who occasionally lacks in the romance department I decided to use this to score some romance points. The next three nights; rain, rain, and more rain. As it would happen on my birthday it wasn’t raining. Getting home late after our children’s kindergarten graduation they immediately fell into bed. The opportunity I was waiting for finally arrived; I took my wife’s hand and led her into the back yard.

Making our way down the back steps and to the spot that I had enjoyed some nights ago we stood in absolute astonishment. Lightning bugs were all over the valley and up on the side of the mountain. Thousands of tiny lighting bugs played an enormous symphony of light written be an invisible yet present Almighty Conductor. The actual sight of this is indescribable as with so many of His other wonderful works. Holding each other close we both marveled at this incredible sight. What an awesome place He created for us to enjoy.

After several minutes of enjoying such a magnificent wonder on display we didn’t want to go in. However it was when we turned to go back to the house I was met with another stark reality. While we were standing in such admiration of His creation I had grown shorter. Standing on the rain soaked ground near the creek I had sunk in the soft earth nearly to my ankles in mud and grass. Still in my only pair of really nice shoes, this was not good, but what an incredible place He’s created.

Awww! Poor guy. It's hard to find really nice shoes, but kudos to him for showing his wife such a beautiful thing. I love the empty, dark fields filled with the fireflies as well. A nice piece, just remember to use a few commas in between.

For example, when you say "Well," a comma should go after it as the sentence continues, because there is a natural pause there.

Good stuff though! ^_^ made me smile.

I LOVE fireflies! Lots of nice descriptions here. You are missing several commas but a little touching up and this is a lovely piece.

Too often we don't stop to admire the beauty God has given us. Good story.
