Previous Challenge Entry (Level 1 – Beginner)
Topic: Light and Dark (05/21/09)
Have you noticed that some Christians,
Want to be politically correct?
They strive to please most people,
It’s the only way they can connect.

It’s easy with a murderer,
Most all will say he’s wrong,
But mention homosexuality,
And they’ll be singing a different song.

The Bible must be grey there,
It couldn’t be light or dark.
Just to please the people masses,
They will easily change their bark.

And what about some stealing?
Most agree that this is sin.
They’ll convict and throw the guy in jail.
We know he’ll never win.

But mention an abortion,
And the hairs stand up their neck.
If you say that God created it,
You are sure to catch some heck.

What kind of Christian are you?
Do you dare to take a stand?
Will you stand on solid Scripture?
Or dilute it out with sand?

I know I want to be like Jesus,
For all people, He showed love,
But He never once condoned their sin,
Or behind the bushes shove.

Lord, help me be discerning,
In everything I do and say.
And when it comes to touchy issues,
I hope I’m not, “Just A Little Grey.”

You've given me some good food for thought! Just what kind of Christian am I?! I needed that today. You mentioned some very pertinent issues also, such as abortion and homosexuality.

Jude 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

God bless you for your boldness to speak the truth... no compromise.

Very thought-provoking!

A few of your rhymes were a little bit awkward or forced.

I really like the way you show the courage of your convictions.

good idea. I thoght some of the rhymes were a bit suspect especially the fourth lines which sometimes read awkwardly as though you had tried to think of something just to fit the second line.
better in my view to write a non rhyming poem than one that has forced ryhmes unless it is a comical poem and this clearly is not as the subject matter is so serious.
If you feel up to it try another version similar but ditch the rhymimg!

Hi Brian. I just wanted to leave a quick note to let you know your entry, Just a Little Grey, actually did very well in the Light and Dark Challenge. Although you didn't receive an award, you made it into the Highest Rankings for Level 1, placing 11th in that Level. There were a lot of entries this week, and competition in Level 1 is always very intense, so give yourself a pat on the back. :-)
