Everybody has their bad day. If you’ve already had yours, you know what I mean, and if you haven’t, watch out. My bad day was a Thursday. My sister and I were pulled from gym class, and we both thought it was some kind of joke. The truth was, my father had run through the trailer of a tractor trailer truck and was lifted by helicopter to the hospital. He stayed in I. C. U. for weeks, spiking fevers at temperatures that could have fried his brain. He couldn’t walk. He couldn’t talk. He scribbled on a piece of paper mostly, until we taught him the sign language sign for “I love you”, then the scribbling slowed down. His face wasn’t even the right color, it was a murky green.
Now he walks without a cane, talks fine, and his face is finally the right color. He’s a walking miracle. Every things o.k. now, just like it was Thursday morning.
This family I know has been planning a trip to Disney now for weeks. They kept saying to each other, “Guess what? We’re going to Disney!” over and over because they couldn’t believe it. They have three kids, and there mom is a hairdresser. Normally, she takes the youngest to work with her. The day before their Disney trip, she took him to work with her. He was off playing in another room when a car ran through the building she does her styling in. Her client’s back was broken, and her son who is just a toddler broke his collar bone. When we went to visit them and take them cookies, the toddler was shaking because he had just upchucked, and my mother urged them to take him to the E. R.. Meanwhile, my sister, mother, and I stayed back with the two oldest. We told them stories about the good times, ones that would make them laugh. As we pulled out of their driveway, I sighed to myself. Everything was going to be o.k.. They were going to be fine, just like my sister and I.
When it seems like their isn’t an ounce of good in the world, there’s only one thing to do. Remember that the better days are coming, and once they do, they’ll keep on getting better and better!
“We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God- those who he has called according to his plan.”
Romans 8:28 New Living Translation
