Armour

We live in a safety conscious world
With regulations galore,
As into our lives we are hurled
Never knowing what's in store.

"Wear your helmet," your mother calls
As you head out on your bike.
You need protection in case of falls,
Spills, crashes and the like.

Put on your cricket gloves and pads
The coach shows you what to wear.
He knows how to protect his lads,
So they face up with no fear.

Racing leathers and helmet strong
You wear when motor racing.
You'll be protected riding along,
A tough layer, your soft body encasing.

Sunglasses are needed on the slopes
And sunscreen on exposed parts.
Seasoned skiers who know the ropes
Get prepared before the fun starts.

Hard hats are needed on the building site
And steel capped boots your toes shield.
Following safety rules is right
As hand and power tools you wield.

Flak jackets or bullet proof vests,
The soldier or lawman needs
As he faces deadly tests
A protection from the enemy's deeds.

Not all beings need hard armour
Some God designed hard-shelled,
Like the snail, turtle or lobster
Whose enemies are repelled.

But for those who are God's family
He designed a perfect armour.
A protection from the enemy
To be worn with all our ardour.

Ephesians Six details it
Like a soldier's armour of old.
You must put on every bit
As you are God's army bold.

For hard shells can protect your body
By covering your soft parts,
But only armour that's Godly
Can protect against Satan's darts.

Ephesians 6:13 - 18 (NIV) "Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with a breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints."
