The child became a boy, and was always eager to learn about the world’s mysteries. He would ask the most adorable questions: Why did the stars light up at night? How did birds know when to come out of their eggs? Why were people different colors? Why does mommy cry when she is happy?
With the naiveté of a child, he would always point and ask, “Why does that happen?”, or “How did that happen?” as he witnessed the beautiful mysteries of the world around him.
In the normal course of time, the boy became a young man. His curiosity was no longer a cute thing, and the questions were not answered with smiles. How can anyone do that to someone else? Why do different races dislike each other? Why does dad always make mom cry?
With the angry frustration of a young man, he would point and ask, “What’s wrong with you?” or “How could you let this happen?” as he saw the harsh realities of life around him.
The young man became a man in the way men do. He was no longer curious, and his questions elicited bland replies. Whose turn is it to drive the carpool? What’s on TV tonight? What’s for dinner?
With the broken spirit of a drone, he would point and ask, “How much is that?”, or “What time is the viewing?”
The man became a middle aged man as most men do. He was deeply curious about his purpose in life. His questions were meaningful and met with interest. What is the real meaning of life? How did we get here? Who is really in charge?
With the inquisitive nature of man, he would point and ask, “Is that evidence of God?”, or “Can science really explain that?”
The middle aged man was fortunate enough to become an old man. He was no longer curious, and he smiled as he asked his questions. Will you join me at church? Do you need some help? Are you hungry?
With the loving spirit of a child of God, he would point and ask, “Can I pray for you?”, or “How can I help?”
In the end, the old man met his Father with joy, knowing that He listened to all of the man’s questions, and answered them all with the right answer at the right time.
