Suddenly something landed on my shoulder. “God, is it friend or foe?” No answer. “God, what do I do?” Still, no answer. Tears swelled up within me until I cried out --- “God, please, help me!” But yet still --- No answer.
At a snail’s pace, I turned to face several shadowy figures. “Don’t be afraid. I’m Job, one of God’s ambassadors. I understand you are afraid of the darkness and light is nowhere to be found.”
“Un-huh.”
“Please come with us. We can temporarily hide you.”
“Ah-h-h, well…”
Job extended his hand, “Please hurry.”
Once we were hidden from the outside world, Job continued, “I instantaneously lost my enormous finance, loving family and bright finite future. I too cried out to God and got no immediate answer. Before I could absorb one disappointment, I was hit with another dark, disillusioned, devastating blow and to make my headache worse, I was stricken with a probable deadly disease. Anger and intense heartache originally consumed me. But then (tears filled his eyes), as a true worshiper, I remembered the one and only true God of my past who has never lied to me although my friends tried to tell me different. God has always been there as provider, protector and peacemaker. He is unchanging, uncompromising and dependable at all times. His grace and mercy says: My child, my child, I love you.”
“Okay Job, move over, I want to talk. Hi! I’m young David. Was that Saul and his men following you? I too cried out many times to the faithful Jehovah Nissi. My daddy used to tell us about some of His magnificent, marvelous miracles.”
“As a very young boy, I was very impatient,” continued David. “I’d go down on my knees every night asking for something and rise every morning with my hands wide open. However, materialistically, God never put anything in them. I complained, “Daddy, God moves too slow. He has become old and hard of hearing.”
In a deep, husky voice with a smile on his face, David attempted to mimic his dad. “Son, God’s timing is not like ours. Besides God is a Spirit and a spirit does not age.”
David’s laughter got a little louder. “I remember buying God a watch that Christmas with a note that said I’m still waiting for a mighty move.”
Again in his deep daddy voice, David said, “You may think God has not answered you, but His hedge of protection is always around you. He gives you what you need, when you need it and when He thinks you can handle it.”
“David, I’m sure our guest is tired of listening to your stories. Hi! I’m Hosea. Have you seen my wife, Gomer? My neighbor said she left earlier today with the blacksmith. I arrived home to screaming, hungry kids.”
“This is not the first time she has run off, but she always comes back. She thinks I haven’t put two and two together. She tries to play me for a fool. Little Johnny has straight, wavy hair with green eyes and nobody in my family looks like him. Although Little Susie’s hair is coarse and curly like mine, for a 10 year old, she is almost as tall as me with buck teeth, knocked knees and she already wears a size 6 man’s shoe. I’m fed up and can’t take it anymore. I’m so glad my God does not have my personality. God has said and demonstrated that he would never leave nor forsake me. His love is eternally unfailing.”
“Well, lucky you! Hey, who is that crying?”
“Oh, that’s Jeremiah. He is so sensitive. People say his bread is not fully baked. He is always crying and talking to himself. You can try talking to him. He and God are usually on speaking terms.”
“Hi, Jeremiah, my enemies are approaching and God will not answer. What do I do?”
Jeremiah continued wailing and mumbling.
“Hey, stop crying and talk to me! I need your help. I’m scared.”
Jeremiah finally answered, "Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matthew
4:17).
