EUROPE
A few things rise in my mind when I consider writing about Europe.
I remember eight or so years ago travelling back from Budapest, Hungary, with my wife - at the time- our children and my mother and brother. We had been visiting another brother who had been living there for four or five years.
We were on a train covering a seemingly vast distance from Budapest to Prague airport, to fly back to England.
I grew sleepy during the long train journey, watching the changing landscape of steep wooded valleys, little villages and rivers and acres of farmland, and decided to put my feet up on the seat opposite, in an attempt to get more comfortable for some sleep.
In that position for no more than a minute, a woman walked past giving me a severe disapproving look, looked at my wife and continued up the aisle.
Several minutes passed with my children talking with my mother and brother when the woman came back.
She had two napkins in her hand and looking at my wife, said;-
"We are not in London now, we are in Europe.", and indicated that I should lift my feet in order to have the napkins exactly placed where my feet were. Then she turned round with a straight back and walked stiffly back down the train.
I was struck by the thought that she believed me, as an english man, to be bad mannered and disrespectful towards a foreign country, and had'nt even spoken to me, but to my wife, perhaps believing I would react aggressively as well as being unpleasant.
Perhaps the media portrayed englishmen as louts. The most arrogant, ignorant and rude people I have seen, abroad, I pause to admit, were English. Perhaps my experience is limited.
My brother who lives in Hungary said that most Europeans imagine the english as a kind of caricature, wearing bowler hats, a union jack vest, carrying a black umbrella and drinking and fighting on the weekend with a stiff upper lip, saying 'Jolly good show, what'.
Something else that comes to my mind is the end of time, and what some christians have surmised the prophesies in the Word say about Europe...
I watched a video a few years ago by a chap whose name I have forgotten now. He was talking about the european union and Brussels, the stronghold of the ruling EU government. What is it's name now? My apologies for no proper research, I have no access to the library and the internet today, and it is wednesay...
I do remember its original name... The Treaty of Rome. They have changed the name six or seven times since then.
Anyway, the man on the video spoke about quite a few very interesting points, like the number 666- a man's number:-
The number of the antiChrist (although anyone who denies Jesus as the Lord, son of God, is an antiChrist).
He spoke of the pamphlets and picture on them produced by Brussels; the woman sat on a bull surrounded by twelve stars with its unpleasant and revealing connotations with baal worship. The central government building that is a reproduction of the tower of Babel often depicted in biblical illustrations. A well known christian actually said this to the leaders in Brussels, who are quoted as saying they wanted to finish what God had stopped...
These are all points worth investigating with an open mind, not just brushed aside as conspiracy theories.
He talked about the fact of people being unable to buy or sell without the number on their hands or heads. A single currency, id cards.
Its not difficult to see the next step when people are walking around now with their health details micro chipped into their arms, like pets are. Satellite tracking on every new car made, cctv everywhere.
The presenter continued to expound the idea that the man's number 666 meant where he came from and his age. The lines on a globe, longitude and latitude, create squares, each of which have a number. 6 is Italy.
He went on say that politicians said they were looking for a leader with enough personality to rally behind the cause of the EU. Perhaps this is the antiChrist to come, described in the book of Daniel and Isaiah. Interesting.
