My Country

Australia or New Zealand, which one will I choose?
Both have great beaches and beautiful views.
The answer is easy for someone like me,
I'm a dyed-in-the-wool, loyal, true blue Kiwi.

In summer the beaches are all very near.
Winter means snow and the ski season's here.
Autumn brings temperatures mild and mellow,
And spring is all new with daffodils yellow.

Life in New Zealand is great, it is true,
There's such an abundance of things you can do.
The freedom we have is a blessing indeed
No restriction on what sort of life you can lead.

They call it Godzone and for me that is right
For it is here my eyes opened and I saw the light
Of Jesus my saviour, my brother, my friend
Who is faithful and true, on whom I depend.

All places have problems of one sort or another,
But here God's people are supporting each other.
And the Gospel is spreading all over the land
So Satan won't succeed in the things he has planned.

My privilege it is to live in this place
Where I am able to run the good race.
I'm not saying it's perfect or without fault
But God's people are here and they're acting like salt.

For like food without salt would so tasteless be
New Zealand without Christians would horrify me.
You see it's God's blessing that makes this place good
And the Christian basis of our nationhood.

Democracy rules in the political scene
The country is known to be clean and green.
New Zealand, my birthplace in the South Sea
I cannot think of any place I'd rather be.
