Relaxing before the flickering timber of the camp fire, my thoughts, like the ignited particles, took flight. Thoughts of God and the wonders of His creation captivated my imagination.
As if directed by God, my eyes fixed on a fragment from the camp fire. The air-born ember, lead me to a neighboring woods where I caught sight of a beautiful fawn, God’s most graceful creature.
I watched as she meandered through the rough thicket in search of food. Suddenly, my thoughts were interrupted when our eyes met. My acquired reflex was to freeze. The fawn responded in like manor. The hands of time appeared to stop as we peered deeply within the eyes of fascination. Her eyes, reflecting the light of the full moon, beckoned me to come closer. I slowly approached the fawn expecting her to scurry off in fear; however, she just stood still, as if glued to the earth. I was within ten feet of the fawn when she decided that was enough, and ran into the dense woodland.
My divine appointment with the fawn was a memorable moment in my childhood. I named the fawn serendipity, for we were in the right place at the right time.
Lord Jesus, I thank you for allowing me to experience a small slice of heaven.
