As I climb the steps of this five-story water slide, my body starts to shiver and my knees quake…I ask myself, “What am I doing?” I just focus on looking straight forward, not up or down, because then I will be able to see how high I really am and what I am about to do. I am not an adrenaline junkie by any means, but on a recent trip to a water park with a group of friends, my comfort level was stretched to say the least. In recounting this story, I think about how it resembles where I am in life. The name of the waterslide was something along the lines of the “Giant Toilet Bowl,” I think that depicts the path I feel like I am on. Just when I thought I had it ALL figured out, God says WAP! Stop there child, you don’t have anything figured out and my timing is not your timing – chill. I then look up to Him and say, “OK…I will wait for you, right here on these stairs, well, can I just walk back down and not go on the ride?” He responds to me, “You need to get on the ride. Don’t worry, I know the path to the bottom is dark, but hold on and trust me.” WOOSH – the life guard pushes us down. As I am falling and my stomach feels like it is going to jump out of me and onto the tube I recite prayers and manage to scream at the same time. In a matter of seconds, I find myself spinning in circles (the toilet bowl) and I am LAUGHING. Laughing because the dark tunnel of the slide was short and sweet and now I can see the end of the ride!! My body is still shaking as I exit the ride but I walk away a proud woman that I took the chance and went on the ride. Taking this chance is what God asks us to do in life. He asks us to climb the stairs to the top of the waterslide, even though we are scared and unsure of how it will all turn out. He tells us that it may be cold, lonely and challenging, but we can do it! Once we close our eyes and say, “I trust you Lord,” He gives us the PUSH! And down we go, we may scream or yell, but before we know it, the trial is over and He is waiting for us ready to embrace us and show us why we had to go through what we did. Trust him, ultimately we are not in control and our Abba always knows better than we do. Take the plunge!
