Endlessly searching for happiness
In an elaborate game of hide and seek.
They did not read the rule book
And so are looking in all the wrong places.
They look in fame,
But it was in vain.
No matter how hard they search,
How famous they become,
Happiness was not to be found.
They hunted amongst the wealthy
And joined the ranks of the rich,
But it was in vain.
They turned their eyes upon possessions
And sought happiness amongst things.
They could not find it in the things they already owned
And so bought more
In a desperate hope that happiness could be coaxed into their lives,
But it was in vain.
In a last, disillusioned attempt,
They searched amongst themselves,
Selling themselves to each other
Blindly hoping that this,
This would reveal happiness.
But it was in vain.
Instead of happiness they found fear and insecurity.
Fear that their fame, their wealth, their possessions or their partner
May disappear
Leaving them naked and exposed.
They should have read the rule book
Instead of playing this children’s game.
Then they would have found the source
Of happiness and joy.
Our Lord.
