In the semi-darkness I sit alone on the front porch embracing the coolness of the early morning hours. The moon has not yet relinquished its lofty place in the heavens and given way to the sun’s request to begin the day. The faint sounds of the birds beginning their morning chorus can be heard ever so faintly from atop the tall pine trees. In the distance is the soothing trickle of water as it cascades across the rocks scattered along the creek bed.

I wish this time would never end; these tranquil moments of peaceful serenity. As I snuggle a little deeper into the warmth of my throw blanket I tilt my head slightly forward catching a glimpse of the mountain’s silhouette standing boldly as if sketched in charcoal against the morning sky.

Yes, the dawn of a new day. This is the time I long for. This is the time I choose to spend with God, concentrating on nature and all of his wondrous creations. It is during these moments of quiet meditation and prayer that I feel as the Psalmist did when he said, “I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word”.

For you see, God is my everything. I eagerly anticipate these times when I can sit uninterrupted and focus on his word.

As the sun paints a hazy pink hue across the morning sky I arise, rejoicing in the knowledge that no matter what happened yesterday, God’s compassions are new every morning. I am now able to begin the day anew.
