My mother who was not so thrilled with the situation at the time said, “Well we will have to find the owner because I’m sure this dog has an owner.”
“No, God wanted me to have her” was my reply. My mom spoke with the neighbor about the dog and the neighbor lady told my mom who owned the dog. I sat devastated in the car as we drove over to the owner’s house. This was my answered prayer and now we had to return it. This didn’t seem right to my three-year old mind.
My mom went in and talked with the owner and the owner said her family had allergies to the dog and her husband wanted her to get rid of the dog. She said she had been contemplating it, but the dog was so sweet and she hated to kick her back out into the streets. She told my mom that if we wanted the dog, she was ours.
My dog, Sandy, was my answered prayer. At the age of three, she filled my desire in having a pet; however, she was more than just a pet; she was a hero. When I was eight my brother was born, and he wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for Sandy. My brother was born with acid reflux and had quit breathing in the middle of the night. My dog, Sandy must have sensed something was wrong because she woke my mom up. After two times of my dog waking my mom up because my baby brother wasn’t breathing my brother was put on an apnea monitor to monitor his breathing, but it was always reassuring to know that my dog was in tune with my family.
