The only part of life that felt more like winning than losing to Barry rested in the beauty and bright future of his daughter. She is a girl whose joy is so real you could actually feel it radiate from her smile, even in pictures. This is a girl who, only a few short years ago, flopped into freshly raked leaf piles and boasted of her daddy's strength to fellow second graders. The memories were comforting but they changed nothing. He stood there with thoughts as frantic and meaningless as the maddest of madmen. Barry linked arms with his daughter and cried a straight-faced controlled cry, as a difficult question is asked him. Who gives this woman to be married to this man?

The only part of life that ever wanted to understand Ben stood beside her father and could not have looked more humble than stunning if she tried. In her eyes danced a curious fire that accompanied a face so brilliant, one could see it clearly a month after she left the room. Ben's emotions were in shambles but his body and countenence were still. In the last 10 months Ben firmly decided that he needed her, but now a difficult question is asked him. Do you take this woman?

The challenge of finding a wife gives birth to a different set of challenges, just as the challenge of raising a daughter yields even more difficulty. Don't waste your years, as so many do, controlling and backbiting away the time that could be well spent. Consider your place next to God and loving even the unlovely becomes simpler. Not properly dealing with the fact that your daughter is in someone else's hands may stem from the false assumption that she was ever in yours.

Great use of specific details. Also good hyperbole: "In her eyes danced a curious fire that accompanied a face so brilliant, one could see it clearly a month after she left the room." This was a great read.
