Topic: Sibling(s) (05/01/08)
The picture on the mantel above the fireplace was of the three children. Their mother had taken it during a family vacation last summer. The siblings all had blue eyes and blond hair and some similar features, but they also had unique differences.

On the right stood the youngest girl. She was about 19 years old and loved to play tennis, texting and talking to her friends on her cell phone, and being connected to her iPod. She was attending a nearby university and had talked about majoring in the same field as her brother had. Also, she had recently gotten a summer job to help pay for school the next year.

On the left stood the middle child -- the boy. He was in his late 20’s and enjoyed playing tennis, backpacking through the mountains, downhill snow skiing, and playing the guitar. He was in a band and had a job as a speech therapist at a school not far from where he lived. He had recently gotten married to a girl from graduate school. And there were rumors that they would soon begin a family of their own.

In the middle of the other two sat the oldest girl. She sat in a wheelchair and was almost 30 years old, but other people often mistook her age for being in her early or mid-20s. She had enjoyed playing the piano, horseback riding, and swimming when she was younger, but the disease she had took those abilities away. Fortunately, she could still write on her computer. Even though her fingers were basically useless, she had voice-activated dictation software. The most striking thing about her was a huge, joyful smile.

Some people did not understand how she could smile -- her life had seemed so difficult, lonely, and isolated. What they did not understand is that God communicated with her through the difficulties in her life. She had never been alone and was beginning to appreciate the difficulty of life. She often thought, “If my life had been easy, I probably would've taken it for granted and still found something to be discontent with. And I'd have difficulty hearing, seeing, and knowing God.”

Romans 8:38-39 (NIV) “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

This is inspiring! The picture and how each sibling had their own 'thing' going on, the inner beauty and smile of the oldest one shined through even in a picture. I loved this and especially the last lines. Well done! ^_^

Great insight on how God often uses the challenges of life to draw us closer to Himself. It would have been nice to hear a little more of how the siblings interacted with each other. Thanks for sharing!
