He was worried and needed to talk to his dad. It was a little late to be speaking with him but he knew his dad would always answer at any time of the day or night.
‘Hi Dad.’
‘Hi Son.’
‘I called because I really need to talk with you.’
‘I am glad you called. Fire away Son, I’m listening.’
‘I have been thinking things over. I am struggling to do what you are asking me to do. For the last three years now since I started your work it just seems as though so little has been achieved. You have always said that you believe in me and my abilities and that you love me unconditionally, but I feel inadequate. There are so many people I have been unable to reach out and help. You know that my heart is to lift people out of despair, to give them hope and to enable them to believe that the best is yet to come. I sometimes walk the streets in the evening when people are asleep and in the silence I weep. I weep for those who have ailments and have no one who can help them. I weep for those who are orphaned and widowed and have no one to tell them they are loved. I weep for those who feel that the bad times will never end and have no one to ease their fears.
I have spoken to some of my friends and showed them the need to be aware of the needs of others and to reach out. They seem to be listening and they are trying their best. They are seeing some success but some days they totally miss the point and see things with worldly eyes. Peter, my best friend, has a great heart and gets such a revelation of what needs to be done but then blows it by trying to achieve it in the wrong way. Three of them are waiting outside in the garden. I thought I could let them speak with you for a while but while they were waiting, they fell asleep. At my most difficult time I find I am alone.
I am feeling so anxious. I know that this is the dawn of a new day and I wish things could be done differently. My heart pulls to be with these people and to keep on living among the sinners and tax collectors and widows and orphans. But I know what you have asked me to do. I am frightened dad. I know that we will not be able to speak to each other for a little while. Dad, I am scared, but I love you…I called to let you know. I can hear the voices of the guards...they are coming for me. I have to go. I will see you soon. I trust that this will be a glorious moment for you and a turning point for humanity. I love you dad.’
‘I am glad you shared your heart with me. You have done all that I have asked you to do. Have great courage in this hour. This is your moment, your destiny. You are my beautiful beloved son in whom I am well pleased. I am so very proud of you son. Oh and Jesus… We are all watching and cheering you on. I love you. ’
