Civil war rent the country, and people lived in constant fear of their lives.
The day was hot and sunny, and Gary headed towards the volunteer woman’s canteen to see if he could buy a drink.
The canteen just outside Marrandellas was really a provision for the country’s troopers dispatched on assignment to the battle zones. It was a comfort zone from the heat of the battle, and Gary hoped it would be his comfort zone from the heat of the day.
As Gary rounded the trees alongside the canteen, he noticed two carriers parked outside, filled with troops waiting their escort’s return. Never one to miss such an opportunity, he went over and climbed aboard to chat to the fellows about their eternal well-being.
You have to know Gary, to know that he has a way of introducing others to the good news of Jesus and the way of life. They chatted a while, and Gary took his Bible and explained to them their need to be ready now because of the uncertainty of life [soldiers going into battle are more aware of this], and it wasn’t long and he was invited to the other troop carrier to speak there also. When Gary had finished every trooper had accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
A smiling Gary stood waving as the troop trucks left, thankful that the heat of the day had afforded him the opportunity to reap such a harvest of souls.
Forgetting his hunger and thirst he walked on whistling happily in thanks to the Lord, recalling the words of Paul, “We must work while it is still day for the night is coming when no one can work.”
