Topic: Illustrate the meaning of "Actions Speak Louder than Words" (without using the actual phrase). (02/21/08)
I didn't hear the words
but for the look that's on your face.
you didn't want to be here
and you peppered it with grace.
It was the seven minute silence
that seemed to give you away
the cliches and forced smile
all you said is that you'll pray

All I needed was a moment
where you could share your heart
I needed to be a kindred
where you couldn't tell us apart
but for all the times you told me
that you would step up to the plate
it seems like it all disappeared
and it might just be too late

I'm hoping we can reconcile
and put things in the past
but I know that scars can run so deep
and how old hurts can last
There are times when words can heal me
but times when they won't do
Times when I don't expect too much
but need a lot from you.

There are times when looks will dazzle me.
but times when I need grace
Times when I don't want to find
messages hidden on your face
Times when words can break away
walls standing firm and tall
but times when I need your hands
to catch me when I fall

If time is all I really need
I hope it heals my scars
If destiny is written in the sky
let it bring me to where you are

You've written something that many of us can relate to; the smile that's not genuine, the uncomfortable silence, the need for an action that would speak louder than the oft spoken "easy" word.

I always admire people who can write poetry, because that is one area that I have no experience in yet.

Your rhyming matched really well. You also had a great message. It's time that we all quit taking the easy route of empty words, and instead put some actions out there to show that we truly care.
